Course Description: Students will study world history beginning with the rise of the major monotheistic religions through the present. A large amount of time and a broad view of all social studies will be covered in the course. A complete view of the high school social studies curriculum is available online at the Michigan Department of Education website.

Evaluation/Assessment: The standard grading scale goes as follows:

    100% - 90% - A         89% - 80% - B         79% - 70% - C         69% - 60% - D        59% - 0% - E

Behavior, attitude, attendance, classroom behavior, missing assignments, the ability to get along with others… etc. will all factor into the student’s overall grade.

Reading/Note Taking: I strongly suggest that students both read and take good notes on their reading. I recommend students have a one subject notebook just for this class. Students will be allowed to use their own hand written notes on all tests and regular quizzes. Students may not use computer printed notes or other student’s hand written notes.

Missing Work: A homework chart is on the bulletin board and filled out as assignments are given. Students are expected to complete their homework on time.  Late work, except in extreme circumstances, will not be accepted.

Google Classroom: A weekly schedule will appear each Friday for the following week.  There is a link to the online book on Google Classroom. A student may also check out a book for home.

Grades: If an “asterisk” appears on MiStar it means I have not entered the grade for that assignment. If a “zero” appears on MiStar it means I have entered the grade and your child did not turn the assignment in.

Tardy Policy: Students are expected to attend class regularly and to be on time.

Cheating: Cheating or plagiarizing on any assignment will result in an automatic zero.  AT NO TIME IS AN ELECTRONIC DEVICE ALLOWED TO BE USED ON ANY TEST OR QUIZ.

Outside Materials: We will use newspapers, periodicals, political cartoons, the internet, Youtube, movies, and several other outside courses throughout the year. Students will at times see a history movie. The movie will be directly related to the topic/time period we’re covering and will not be rated higher than PG-13.

Progress Reports: I will keep MiStar updated on a weekly basis. Please email me with any questions/concerns at any time regarding your child’s standing in U.S. History class.

Communication: I generally arrive at school around 7:00am. My prep hour is 7th hour (2:10-3:00).

Email is the easiest and quickest way to contact me. I check my email on an hourly basis and you should receive a response from me in one day at the most, if not that day.
