Background Information
Am I "Mr. Wicks" or "Dr. Wicks?" I earned a Ph.D. in Chemistry, and for this reason, many of my past College Chemistry and A.P. Physics students have called me Dr. Wicks. I have encouraged students in all of my other classes to call me Mr. Wicks so that they feel more comfortable working with me in a high school setting. In my opinion, when students feel more comfortable around me, they are better able to learn from my teaching.I am certified to teach secondary school chemistry, physics, physical science, biology, and mathematics. Before my employment at Sault High, I performed postdoctoral research in chemistry at the University of Chicago for two years, I worked in the chemical industry for four years, and I was an adjunct chemistry instructor for ten years at Lake Superior State University (LSSU). For fourteen, six-week summer sessions (1996-2004, 2012-2016), I also taught high school science courses for LSSU's Upward Bound Program. Over the years, I have coauthored six published research papers, two educational technology papers, one patent, and fifteen funded grant proposals, which generated approximately $34,500 for education-related science projects.Professional Organizations
