•  Welcome Back to School!!

    Hello!!

My name is Michelle Maas, and I am the Native American Advisor at the Elementary Level. I began working for Sault Schools in 1997. I have previously been the Native American Advisor at Malcolm High School and Sault Middle School. I am a graduate of LSSU, with a B.S. in Human Services, and minors in psychology, counseling, and business administration. This will be my third year working with Elementary students, and I thoroughly enjoy my time with them. They are always teaching me something new!  I feel that it is a privilege to spend time with your children and see them grow academically and socially during the school year.

My job is to monitor attendance, grades and behavior, and provide guidance and interventions as needed.  If you ever have a question or concern regarding any aspect of your child's school experience. please feel free to e-mail me at mmaas@eupschools.org  or phone me at 635-3839 extension 5033.

I would like to invite you to participate in our Title VII Parent Committee. Our first meeting is an open public meeting for all parents or guardians of Native American students in the Sault Ste. Marie Public Schools. It was held on September 21, 2015 at the Big Bear Arena. Beginning in October, we will be having our regular monthly meeting in Room 703, at the Middle School. It will be held at 5:15 P.M.

Our Title VII Indian Education Program is designed to serve the academic and cultural needs of our Native American student population. Our program is federally funded through the Department of Education-Office of Indian Education.  A grant application is submitted annually, for funds that are available to benefit Native youth.  A strong component of the Indian Education Program is parent involvement.  Please consider attending a monthly meeting, to see if you would like to be a part of a Committee that plays a vital role in determining how funds are spent to improve the academic and social aspects of Native youths in our community!

I hope your child has a wonderful year, and if you need anything, please give me a call or send an e-mail!!

    Thanks!
