Minutes – Tuesday, December 17, 2019

 

  1.      I. CALL TO ORDER

President Smith called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. in the Sault Area Middle School, 684 Marquette Avenue.

           A.     ROLL CALL OF BOARD

Board Members Present: Christine M. Curtis, Melissa S. Pingatore, Daniel L. Smith, Martin R. Wolski, Joseph A. Cochran

Board Members Absent: Jay D. Wilson, Ester L. Proulx

 

  1.     B.     ADOPTION OF THE AGENDA

It was moved by Member Wolski, supported by Member Cochran, that the Board of Education adopt the agenda as presented.

Yeas: Curtis, Pingatore, Smith, Wolski, Cochran

Nays: None

Absent: Wilson, Proulx

Motion Carried.

 

  1.      C.     AUDIENCE PARTICIPATION

There was none.

 

  1.      D.     CLOSED SESSION – M.O.M.A. 15.268 §8 (b)

The parent of John Doe #2 19/20 requested a closed session for the disciplinary hearing.

It was moved by Member Curtis, supported by Member Pingatore, that the Board of Education move into closed session at 5:31 p.m. in accordance with the Open Meetings Act 15.268 §8 (b), to consider the disciplining of John Doe #2 19/20.

         

Yeas: Pingatore, Curtis, Smith, Wolski, Cochran

Nays: None

Absent: Wilson, Proulx

Motion Carried.

 

The Board returned to open session at 6:03 p.m.

 

  1.      E.     RESOLUTION

It was moved by Member Curtis, supported by Member Wolski, that the Board of Education expel John Doe #2 19/20 through the end of the school year and offer the option to apply for reinstatement after July 1, 2020, providing John Doe obtains written proof of attendance and successful completion of an anger management program and substance abuse program from a certified counselor.

Yeas: Curtis, Pingatore, Smith, Wolski, Cochran

Nays: None

Absent: Wilson, Proulx

Motion Carried.

 

Superintendent Hall indicated a letter confirming the conditions of the expulsion would be mailed to the parent shortly, and one of the Middle

School administrators would be contacting them to assist with on-line enrollment.

 

President Smith offered some words of encouragement to John Doe #2 19/20 and suggested he use his time away to turn his life around.

 

  1.     II. ADJOURNMENT

 

There being no further business to come before the Board at 6:09 p.m., it was moved by Member Curtis, supported by Member Wolski, that the meeting be adjourned.
