124.     I.    CALL TO ORDER

 

President Smith called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. in the Sault Area Middle School, 684 Marquette Avenue, Sault Ste. Marie, MI 49783

 

125.     A.     ROLL CALL OF BOARD

 

Board Members Present:  Melissa S. Pingatore, Christine M. Curtis, Daniel L. Smith, Lisa A. Young, Joseph A. Cochran

Absent:  Jay D. Wilson, Martin R. Wolski

 

126.    B.     ADOPTION OF THE AGENDA

                                   

It was moved by Member Cochran, supported by Member Curtis, that the Board of Education move to adopt the agenda as presented.

 

Yeas:  Pingatore, Curtis, Smith, Young, Cochran

Nays:  None

Absent:  Wilson, Wolski

Motion Carried.

 

127.    C.     AUDIENCE PARTICIPATION

 

There was no comment.

 

128.     D.    CLOSED SESSION – M.O.M.A.  15.268 §8(b)

 

It was moved by Member Pingatore, supported by Member Young, at 5:32 p.m., the Board of Education move into closed session in accordance with the Open Meetings Act 15.268 §8(b), to consider the disciplining of Jane Doe #1 20/21.

 

President Smith announced there would not be any new action items after the Board returns to open session.

 

Yeas:  Pingatore, Curtis, Smith, Young, Cochran

Nays:  None

Absent:  Wilson, Wolski

Motion Carried.

 

At 6:12 p.m. Superintendent Hall welcomed the public back into the meeting room, and Mr. Galer opened the virtual meeting to the public.

 

The Board returned to open session at 6:12 p.m.

 

129.     E.     RESOLUTION

 

President Smith announced he was looking for a resolution from the Board.

 

It was moved by Member Curtis, supported by Member Cochran, that the Board of Education expel Jane Doe #1 20/21 for the remainder of the 2020/2021 school year, and allow her to petition for reinstatement starting August 1, 2021, providing she submit written documentation from a certified counselor that she successfully completed an anger management program.   

 

Discussion ensued on the motion and its expectation among Jane Doe, her parent, the Board, and Dr. Hall. 

 

Superintendent Hall stated a letter would be mailed home confirming the Board’s resolution and Mrs. Rondeau-McCarthy would be contacting them to assist with the best method of education during the expulsion.

Nays:  None

Absent:  Wilson, Wolski

Motion Carried.

 

130.     II.     ADJOURNMENT

 

There being no further business to come before the Board at 6:16 p.m., it was moved by Member Cochran, supported by Member Curtis, that the meeting be adjourned.
