60.       I.          CALL TO ORDER

 

President ­­­­­­DeWitt called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. in the Sault Area Middle School – Room 601, 684 Marquette Avenue.

 

61.                   A.        ROLL CALL OF BOARD

 

Board Members Present: Melissa S. Pingatore, Daniel L. Smith, Raymond J. DeWitt, Christine M. Curtis, Caitlin L. Galer, Jay D. Wilson, Lisa A. Young

 

Absent: None

 

62.                   B.       ADOPTION OF THE AGENDA

 

It was moved by Member Curtis, supported by Member Galer, that the Board of Education adopt the agenda as presented.

 

Yeas:  Pingatore, Smith, DeWitt, Curtis, Galer, Wilson, Young

Nays:  None

Absent:  None

Motion Carried.

 

63.                   C.        AUDIENCE PARTICIPATION

 

There was none.

 

64.                   D.        OPEN SESSION

 

The student and parent were not present. 

 

There was no request for a closed session.

 

The Middle School Principal, Special Education Director, and School Resource Officer were present.

 

Confirmation was made that the parent was notified of the student’s behavior and request to attend the manifestation hearing and this school board meeting.

Ms. Rondeau provided evidence that John Doe #2 22/23 was in possession of a weapon on September 30, 2022.

 

Board discussion ensued. 

 

65.                   E.        RESOLUTION

 

It was moved by Member Wilson, supported by Member Curtis, that the Board of Education permanently expel John Doe #2 22/23 for possession of a dangerous weapon in a weapon-free school zone in violation of the Student Handbook and Board Policy 8400. 

 

It was noted that John Doe #2 22/23 may apply for possible reinstatement under Revised School Code 380.1311(6).

Motion Carried.

 

 

66.       II.     ADJOURNMENT

There being no further business to come before the Board at 7:00 p.m., it was moved by Member Wilson, supported by Member Curtis, that the meeting be adjourned.
