My child has a negative balance, why is that? I thought meals were free?

    • Yes, meals are free! Thanks to the state budget passed in the summer of 2023 each student is able to eat at school for free! Each student is able to eat 1 breakfast and 1 lunch at no cost to families . Each meal must meet the requirements of the USDA for a complete meal (grain, meat/meat alternative, fruit/veggie, milk).
      • Milk without the meal is charged as an ala carte purchase to the student account.
      • Additional entrees are charged as an ala carte purchase to the student account.
      • At the middle school or high school, any snack bar or retail food purchase is charged as an ala carte purchase to the student account.

Why am I still being asked to fill out a meal benefit form?

    • Many other benefits that students receive are based on information from these forms. Pay-to-play, free/reduced SAT or AP testing costs, community donations, etc all use the date from these forms to determine eligibility.
    • Some money that our school district receives is directly tied to the meal benefit information form. We ask that all families still fill out the form so that as a district we can report this information accurately.

My child forgot their lunch money this morning. Will they be able to eat?

    • Because of our participation in Michigan School Meals all students are able to eat one breakfast and one lunch at no charge each day, so your student will be able to still receive a meal. If your child needs to make an ala carte purchase (milk, addtional entree, or snack/retail food purchase) they may not be allowed to do so if their account is negative.
    • Meal payments can be made online through the parent portal at any time, or an in-person payment can be made at the school. Unfortunately, we are not able to take credit card payments in person or over the phone.

My child has special dietary needs. Can they still eat?

    • Absolutely! In order to accommodate special dietary needs, we have a form to be filled out and requires a physician signature. Once we have this form on file we will have a special meal available each day for your student.
    • This form can be found on our "forms" page, or in-person from any of school's main office.
    • For students who are lactose-intolerant, we provide white lactose-free cow’s milk (dependent on availability from our supplier). For students with a dairy allergy, we provide unsweetened soy milk.

I would like to request a refund of my student’s lunch balance. How do I do this?

    • Send an email with your request to jharris-sas@eupschools.org with your student’s name and an updated mailing address. Our food service director will work on getting a refund check sent to your home.

Can I put a spending limit on my student's account for ala carte purchases?

    • We do our best to accommodate these requests, but there are some limits as to what we are able to do. Please reach out to Jordan Harris at 906-632-5656 with this request.

How do I see what my child is purchasing?

    • On the parent portal, you not only have the ability to make payments, you can also see what your student is purchasing each day.
      • At the middle school and high school level, you will be able to see when they get a meal and also track their ala carte (snack bar) purchases.
      • For elementary school students, you will be able to see any time your student is charged for a single milk or additional meal.
