• Sixth grade science is an introductory class on earth and space, physical, and life science.  Students will be introduced to new vocabulary, new concepts, experiments, and cooperative learning.  Students are expected to come to class prepared to work together and contribute to class discussions.

I will provide one notebook per year per student to keep their notes, thoughts, and work as they progress throughout the year. It is the student's responsibility to keep track of this notebook and have it with them in class each day.

The first quarter we will learn about the practice of science.  We will practice making claims, finding evidence, and learn how to provide the reasoning behind our claims.  This will provide a basic understanding of how science works.

After we have completed this section, we move into our physical science unit and learn about force and motion.  We will study Newton's three laws of motion and learn how these three laws answer all our questions about motion.

The second quarter will be devoted to Earth and space science.  In this unit, we will focus on the history of Earth, plate tectonics, volcanoes, earthquakes, rock cycle, and geological time.  We have some exciting projects for this unit.

The third quarter will be devoted to life science.  In this unit, we will focus on ecosystems and habitats. Again, we will have some exciting projects to help us better understand this unit.

The fourth quarter will be devoted to a mixture of review and new engineering projects.
